Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) is a revolutionary therapeutic approach in regenerative therapies and has recently become a practice in cosmetics and aesthetics. Blood is made of multiple components, namely red blood cells and plasma which is rich in platelets, proteins and growth factors – by extracting this serum, we are able to use in it cosmetic regeneration procedures. PRP has two primary methods of use; As a hair restoration treatment and for enhancing regenerative treatments like a RF Microneedling and Collagen Induction Therapies (ie. SkinPen and Fractional Resurfacing).

By injecting PRP directly into the scalp, the growth factors can have stimulating effects on the hair follicles and promote growth, resulting in efficacy in increased hair count, hair thickness and growth phase of the hair cycle. PRP has been proven to help individuals with hair thinning and loss from aging, stress and genetics with an average increase of 33% of hair density and thickness after 6 months.

During your consultation, an assessment will be made to ensure you are the right candidate for PRP. Patients with certain health conditions are not a candidate for PRP injections. And patients who are pregnant are not candidates for PRP injections.
For either mechanism of use, PRP only comes from your own blood. The first step of the treatment is to provide the blood sample – Dr. Hoffmeier or our phlebotomy trained staff will draw a tube of blood and process it to isolate the PRP. For hair restoration treatment, a topical numbing will be applied to the area of the scalp to be treated. Following this, Dr. Hoffmeier will then inject the PRP into the scalp. It is expected to feel small needle sticks but is intended to be tolerable.
We recommend an initial treatment series of 3-6 treatments but it is recommended to continue with treatments as needed to maintain efficacy.
We only need to extract about 15-30mL of blood to retrieve enough serum for the treatment – which is only slightly more than a normal blood draw.
