Botox & Injectables
As we age, our skin loses collagen and elastin, the facial bones thin, and the chubby cheeks we were born with diminish. Then the muscles of facial expression pull the skin down, resulting in lines and wrinkles, sagging skin, hallowing in the cheeks and temples, and change in the youthful shape of our face leading to the appearance of fatigue and lacking the radiance we once had. BOTOX® Cosmetic, Dysport and Juveau
BOTOX® Cosmetic/ Dysport, and Juveau are injectable substances in a family called neurotoxins that temporarily relax the muscles and soften the lines of expression. The FDA has approved these agents to treat the 11’s or the lines between the brows, the crow’s feet or lines around the eyes, and the lines on the forehead. Off label we are able inject the bunny lines, or nose wrinkles, smoker’s lines, or mouth wrinkles, clown lines or those that pull down the corners of the mouth, and wrinkles of the neck and décolleté.
The effect of the muscle relaxation lasts anywhere from 90-120 days. Some patients report the effect lasting up to 6 months, but 3-4 months is the average. Repeat injections are necessary to maintain results.
Continued use of BOTOX®/Dysport and Juveau will prevent further deep wrinkles from forming and prevents the appearance of aging. The injections are quick and virtually painless, so anesthesia is not necessary. The effects of neurotoxins start to become apparent about day 5 after treatment and can take up to 14 days for the full effects of the treatment.

Dermal Fillers
Neurotoxins are often combined with injectable fillers to replace lost volume for more complete facial rejuvenation which has been called a “Liquid Facelift.”
Hyaluronic Acid Fillers
Injectable dermal fillers such as Juvederm® Ultra, Juvederm® Ultra Plus, Juvederm® Volbella, Juvederm® Vollure, Juvederm® Voluma Restylane Silk, Restylane, and Restylane Lyft are all made of hyaluronic acid, a natural substance that our body makes to lubricate skin and joints. These products are used to temporarily replace volume loss in cheeks, facial creases, nasolabial folds, marionette lines, thin lips, and under eye depressions that cause dark circles. Additionally, temporary injectable fillers are sometimes used to correct depressed acne scars, and the contour of the nose. These products provide immediate results and can last from 6- 12 months.
Voluma XC is a long-lasting hyaluronic acid filler that is indicated to lift the cheeks and restore the natural shape of the face, lasting up to 2 years. Off label it is used to enhance other facial features.
Collagen Stimulators
Radiesse
Radiesse is popular to treat lost volume in the cheeks, nasolabial folds, marionette lines, and the jowl line. Most recently it has received the indication to replace volume in the back of hands, that really turns back the hands of time! Radiesse can last a few months longer than the more temporary fillers and has been shown to stimulate more collagen following injection.
Sculptra
Scupltra is a long-lasting injectable filler that is derived from lactic acid. Once injected, it improves the volume, texture, and elasticity of the skin by stimulating your own collagen production. Sculptra is typically used to revolumize hollow cheeks and temples but can be injected in lax skin except for the the lips, and tear troughs. Sculptra continues to improve over several months and lasts at least 26 months.
